Oh the glory that was Christian in his role as
super-mega-badboy JD in Heathers! I lived in NYC when
this movie came out, a poor college girl who dragged
herself uptown two Saturday nights in a row to spend
the whopping $8 a pop so that I could be transported
to a fantasy world where my boyfriend was JD, and not
that really insecure whiny guy from the video
equipment room in the basement of my film school.
It didn't matter that JD ended up being completely psychotic. He was cunning and grinned a lot, and was sexy as hell as he blithely murdered the bloated egos of Every High School, USA. Winona Ryder was his foil, and she played it perfectly, simultaneously mesmerized by JD's wickedness and repulsed, as any good li'l girl should be in a proper world. Some part of me, though, wished she would have given in completely and run off with JD, doing in the mediocre prom queens of the world with subversive suave. I think of you fondly, JD, and thank you for the hours of fantasy material you provided a college girl once upon a time.
