Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The culminating film in the Lord of the Rings saga, Return of the King has the largest scale by far. When last we left our heroes, Frodo and Sam, assisted by Gollum, were still heading toward Mordor. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf, along with a surprising number of people from Rohan, had survived the attack at Helm's Deep. Merry and Pippin were enjoying themselves in the aftermath of the Ents' destruction of Isengard. In Return of the King, the journey continues. Good against Evil. Blah, blah, blah, stuff happens, Princess weeps, more stuff happens, Princess weeps more, there's a semi-happy ending, Princess dissolves into hysterical weeping.

The battle scenes are enormous. The bravery is amazing. The Hot Guys are So Hot. The Bad Guys are So Bad. Everything about the movie is fantabulous: the costumes, the cinematography. It's all good. Plus, the Lord of the Rings movies introduced me to the True Glory that is Elijah Wood, as well as earning Sean Bean a place in my heart forever. For that, I will eternally be grateful.

Quality of the Hot Guys: same guys, different movie
Quality of the Bad Guys: amazing how intimidating a fiery eye can be
Quality of the Other Stuff: a clinic in making good films
