Return to Movie Reviews
While not strictly a theatrical film, rather a fantabulous BBC
miniseries, Pride and Prejudice is one of many film versions of the
Jane Austen classic novel. This particular one stars Hot Bad Guy
Colin Firth as the prideful and prejudicial Mr. Darcy, a man of
insane fortune, including an estate in Derbyshire with a lake.
Remember the lake. It'll be important later.
Here's the really short version: Elizabeth Bennett (played by Jennifer Ehle) is one of five daughters. Her mother is desperate to marry off all the girls, so imagine her delight when a rich gentleman, Mr. Bingley (played by Crispin Bonham-Carter) leases an estate in the neighborhood, bringing with him his friend, Mr. Darcy. Well, you can kind of tell what happens next. Elizabeth and Darcy don't get along, the sexual tension simply hums, Darcy jumps in a lake (see, I told you the lake would be important), and they fall in love. But really, who wouldn't fall in love with a damp Colin Firth?
The miniseries is very long, clocking in at just about five hours. But, that's five hours of Colin Firth in fabulous clothing. Oh, and if you're looking for it, the lake scene is about halfway through the second disc.

Colin Firth should always wear 19th Century Clothing and Crispin Bonham-Carter is no sharp stick in the eye either

hmmm, more quality of the skeevy guys, I daresay

Austen at her best
