Return to Movie Reviews
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets picks up just a few months after its predecessor,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, left off, with Harry Potter back with his miserable
family, the Dursleys. This time, he is rescued, via flying car, by his friend, Ron, and
Ron's brothers, Fred and George. Even more wackiness ensues upon his return to the magical
world. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has a long and glorious history,
including a history of, er, tension between the houses, particularly between Gryffindor and
Slytherin. Salazar Slytherin, one of the founders of Hogwarts, built a Chamber of Secrets
(see? from the title? You're so clever) which housed a monster that could only be controlled
by his True Heir. Due to Harry's impeccable timing, he always seems to be around when the
monster attacks. And, when it's discovered that he has the ability to talk to snakes,
well, you can see what conclusions run rampant through the school.
This film marks Alan Rickman's triumphant return as Professor Severus Snape. He is fabulous, as always, plus he gets to wear this fantastic dueling outfit with lots of buttons. Mmmm... Buttons... And he is joined in Bonds of Hotitude by Hot Bad Guys Jason Isaacs, as Lucius Malfoy father of the Nasty Bastard from the last movie, and Christian Coulson, who plays a 16 year old Voldemort trapped in a diary. (Don't worry, ladies. He was 24 when he made the movie.) All those Hot Guys. And some of them are even Bad! It's pretty obvious why this one outdid the original.

Alan Rickman AND Jason Isaacs, good times

if the regular Voldemort looked like Christian Coulson, I'd become a Death Eater in a minute

better than the first movie, still not as good as the book
