Crash

Here’s another movie I intended to see when it played in theaters, but somehow never quite got around to seeing. It’s got all kinds of Hot Guys in it: Hot Bad Guys Don Cheadle and Ryan Phillippe and Wanna Be Hot Bad Guy Brendan Fraser. Still, a movie about racism? Not really the cheeriest flick out there. Definitely a rental.

Here’s the Short Story: I can’t possibly give you a summary without spoiling the movie entirely. It’s a series of intertwined stories, not in chronological order, dealing with various relationships between people in Los Angeles. It opens with a car crash and things spiral out from there. It’s a story about race and how it effects our actions and our behavior. With the intertwined stories, it was kind of like Love Actually only depressing and with racism.

Everyone in this movie is, well, kind of a jerk. Not really the way I prefer to think about humanity as a whole, but there it is. The one person I thought was uniformly good, turned out to do the worst thing in the movie. It’s definitely worth seeing, although I’m glad I watched it in the comfort and safety of my own home with the lights on. And I’m glad I’ve seen it, even if I didn’t particularly like watching it.

Quality of the Hot Guys: fairly solid all around, actually
Quality of the Bad Guys: no one’s really evil, but then no one’s really good, either
Quality of the Other Stuff: interesting story, even if it brought up stuff no one wants to hear
Overall Score:
