The cast of the newest entry in various attempts to bring Batman to
the Big Screen would probably have been enough to bring any shrieking
fangirl to the theater. On opening night. Heck, just the thought of
Hot Bad Guy Christian Bale in black leather
should be enough, right? Well, much to many people's surprise, it
was actually a fantastic movie, as well. Of course, many people saw
the Joel Schumacher travesty, Batman
& Robin, so perhaps the surprise of seeing a Good Batman Movie
was to be expected.
Here's the Short Story: Little Batman falls down a well. Since he doesn't own Lassie, his dad has to come rescue him. He develops a fear of the bats that dive-bombed him whilst in the well, leading to an early departure from the opera he was attending with his parents. His parents end up getting shot in a mugging outside the opera house. Medium-sized Batman plans to kill the mugger, but the Underground Criminal Element of Gotham gets to him first. So, Grown-Up Batman goes to Asia to study criminal minds, ends up getting trained by the League of Shadows (huge surprise that they're actually bad guys), then returning to Gotham to become a Vigilante on the streets, a light against the darkness of crime, a hero to the people, blah, blah, blah. Bad Guys show up, face down Batman, inevitably lose. Evil plans are overthrown. Christian Bale wears a LOT of black.
It's really great. The Batmobile Rocks and so does Alfred. And the best part is that there's a Clear Set-Up for a sequel, with everybody's Favorite DC Villain, the Joker. More Christian Bale in Black Leather? Where do I sign up?
