Pearce's Hot Bad Guy potential was hinted at in L.A. Confidential, in which he plays a
Tightwad Goody-Two Shoes - not your usual Hot Bad Guy material, but it showed a flair for the
determination necessary for All Hot Bad Guys. This potential was realized rather dramatically
in The Count of Monte Cristo.
Althouth the full extent of Pearce's Evilitude as Fernand Mondego is not known until the end of the movie, the basics are quite enough to qualify him for this list: betrayed his (innocent) best friend to the authorities - twice - and assisted in his conviction, and then married his fiancee. Mondego even betrays his friend to his face, not like some coward.
Fast forward 16 years, and we see Mondego revealed in all his glorious Badness. He is a casual and cold-blooded killer, a traitorous friend, a philandering husband, a neglectful father, an incompetent businessman, and a bad gambler, to top it all off. He's a Bad Guy on the Skids, but he never gives up his evil ways. He's even poofy-haired, but still hot. Now, that's a Hot Bad Guy with determination!
