Gary Oldman
Distinguished Actor Gary Oldman is another one of those guys who has
played a Villain in so many roles, you start thinking that he may only be
able to play Villains. As Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK, Mr. Oldman played this
Presidential Assassin/Patsy very well, considering that the role was
pretty small. Was he a Villain? Well, according to the Warren
Commission he was, but then they also had that wacky Magic Bullet
theory. The Real Story may forever be lost to Villainous History. Mr.
Oldman also played the Count Himself in Bram Stoker's Dracula, a fairly
unsatisfying film, but that could have been the fact that it co-starred
Keanu Reeves. Stunning in period clothing, Mr. Oldman tragically had to
wear quite a bit of make-up for some of his Decrepit Vampire Scenes.
Mr. Oldman's True Villainous Abilities came to fruition with his portrayal of Ivan Korshunov in Air Force One opposite Harrison Ford. After the Nazis, Communists have been called on for Good Villains in many Hollywood movies and the guys in this movie are Pretty Bad. I mean, they hijacked Air Force One, for heaven's sake. It's always good to see Bad Guys With Goals. (Just a side note here: doesn't it sound like Harrison Ford should be saying dammit after every line? Really. I'm the President of the United States Dammit. Get off my plane Dammit. Rent the movie again and try it.) Anyway, Mr. Oldman did a spectacular job in this film, plus he got a really good Death Scene. Wolfgang Peterson could teach Mel Gibson a few things about directing. (No, I haven't yet forgiven him for The Patriot. Did you see what he did to Jason Isaacs?)
Oh yeah, Mr. Oldman will next be seen as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is scheduled for release in 2004.
Dandelion thinks he's pretty hot as Dracula, especially when he's dressed like a Victorian dandy and dramatically pauses to take a bite out of Winona Ryder's lily-white neck. She just wanted me to mention that.
