Matthew McConaughey
The Lovely and Talented Matthew McConaughey launched himself onto the
Hot Bad List for his portrayal of Willis Newton, a bank robber and
swindler extraordinaire, in The
Newton Boys. Based on a true story, The Newton Boys tells the
story of, er, the Newtons, four brothers (with some various
assistants) who, upon realizing they can't make any money as farmers,
decide to rob banks instead. A perfectly logical conclusion. And
rob banks, they certainly do, robbing numerous banks over the course
of several years without getting caught. How do they manage to
continually escape from the authorities? Luckily, the oldest
brother, Willis, is a criminal mastermind.
What do Our Boys do with the money? Spend it on fabulous clothes and expensive hotels. I mean, what else would you do with unexpected riches during the roaring 20's? All goes well for quite a long time until they try to rob a train, which is carrying $3 million. Willis gets greedy, one of the other brothers gets shot, and all hell breaks loose. The brothers are thrown in jail, including Willis, and we get yet more evidence that villains pick out better attire than the criminal justice system (see Ian McKellen in X2). But it's all good. We later find out that Willis serves only four years in jail and may, in fact, have continued his Life of Crime well into his 70's. Nicely done, Mr. Newton. Truly you are a villain for the ages.
