Ed Harris
Well, Ed's character in Enemy at the Gates is bad by the very fact that he's
a Nazi sharpshooter in WWII. Otherwise, his character
comes across quite noble and stalwart. Indeed, even
hero-like. Nevertheless, he's trying to kill that
adorable Jude Law, who plays an upstart Russian
sharpshooter in besieged Stalingrad.
What can one say about Ed other than the fact that he's a man's man AND a woman's man? He's just ALL man. Did I mention how MANLY he is? Hollywood sometimes falls short in the manly department, I'm sad to say. It's not just because so many actors there are padding their loafers with loose change to weigh them down a little, it's mostly because a truly charismatic manly man doesn't come around all that often for auditions. Vapid muscle-boys, sure! Plenty of those for sale, if you're buyin'. Something tells me though, that Ed wouldn't consent to a sit-down on the casting couch. He'd stare that casting agent in the eye with his own steely blues and say, "Keep your pantyhose on!" (a line of his from The Abyss.)
