Hugh Grant
Playing a guy who is not your Standard Bad Guy in Bridget Jones' Diary (and who will appear in the sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason), Hot Bad Guy Hugh Grant raised himself to the Hot Bad Pantheon with his portrayal of Daniel Cleaver, publishing guy and some time wooer of Bridget Jones. Did he try to take over the world? No. Did he kill anyone? Not that we know of. Did he have a set of Matched Minions? No. So, why the heck is on this list, you ask? Well, I'll tell you.
On behalf of Single Women Everywhere, Someone needs to Step Forward and Speak Out against Skeevy Bastards like Daniel Cleaver. Clearly, that person is Me. Mr. Cleaver not only seduced Our Bridget (and looked so adorable doing it), he used and abused her and then cheated on her with a Skinny American. He abandoned her in Her Hour of Need while she was dressed as a Playboy Bunny. And the worst part is, he did it in such a charming manner that we were almost ready to forgive him all his past misdeeds! We would actually have considered taking him back after all that and after watching him beat on the Always Hot, But In This Circumstance, Alas, Good Colin Firth. Luckily, Mr. Cleaver's mouth convinced Bridget otherwise and she gathered the strength to walk away, leaving his beautiful eyes and charming smile lying in the street surrounded by broken glass, but I suspect it was a very near thing.
Daniel Cleaver represents all that is wrong with Guys Who Are Not Actual Supervillains. We love the fact that Bridget came to her senses. Now if the rest of us can do the same, we'll really be on to something.
