Robert DeNiro
Come on, Mr. De Niro. Speak Italian to us. And wear adorable turn of
the century clothing. In Godfather, Part II, Mr. De Niro did just that
as the young version of Don Vito Corleone in flashbacks. Yeah.
Flashbacks. Ordinarily, We don't approve of flashbacks, but in this
case, We're willing to concede the brilliance of the technique if it gets
us hotties like a young Robert De Niro. For most of his screen time in
Godfather, Part II, he speaks in Italian, the language of love. (Or is
that French...) Well, anyway, he sounds almost as Hot as he looks. And
boy, is he Bad. Really Bad. All kinds of crime syndicate/criminal
mastermind action going on in this film. Plus, he's a murderer. And he
intimidates people. Perhaps not to the degree later realized by his son,
Michael Corleone played by Al Pacino, but Don Vito is pretty darned effective.
Aside from all that Mafia stuff, Don Vito has some other things going for him. First of all, he gets to be played later in life by Marlon Brando. That's really cool. And it's clear that Don Vito is really a nice family man. He loves his wife. He loves his kids. He's willing to do anything to protect them, up to and including founding one of the more powerful crime syndicates in New York City. Sigh. Why are the good ones always taken?
