Okay, it's almost like shooting fish in a barrel with
Russell. I mean, c'mon, the man exudes menacing
virility at a rate that could power a city's electric
grid for a year straight. In the little-seen
Australian gem Romper Stomper, Russell is a bit thinner and younger
and completely raw as the slightly psychotic, keenly
intelligent, but utterly hateful leader of a rag-tag
band of skinheads. He takes a passing interest in a
kooky misfit girl named Gabe, and in bringing her into
his hate-mongering fold, precipitates the beginning of
the end for their way of life.
His intensity and believability are eerie, especially in the scene where he has semi-brutal sex with Gabe during a party. You can see why the boys all look up to him and follow him so slavishly. Anyone with a tiny sliver of masochistic tendencies in them would, because he commands your attention and your obedience. In fact, I'm still waiting for him to call me up and tell me exactly what to do.
