Adam Baldwin
And now for a Completely Different Baldwin, Adam Baldwin (no relation to
those other Baldwins) played his most notorious Hot Bad Role in
The
Patriot. As Captain Wilkins, Mr. Baldwin, who looked utterly smashing in
his uniform, portrayed the inexplicable "American Fighting for England
During the American Revolution." Why, you may ask? No reason is really
given. He muttered something about being loyal to England and fighting
for his country and whatnot. Why the Tory Sentiment? No reason. Of
course, this is only one of the plot holes that abound in this film, so
let's move on, shall we?
Mr. Baldwin's character, aside from the whole fighting for the wrong side bit, also did a couple of Really Bad Things. He's the guy who told the Amazingly Evil, but Compellingly Lovely Colonel Tavington, played by Hot Bad Guy Jason Isaacs, where to find Mel Gibson's children, thus inciting the British to attack and burn their hiding place/plantation house. He also Threw the First Torch in the Notorious Church Burning Incident, although in this instance he was acting on direct orders from Colonel Tavington and he angsted about his actions greatly afterward. Not that that saved the villagers, mind, but it's worth noting.
Back to those plot holes I mentioned earlier. At the end of the film, Mr. Baldwin makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the Final Battle (not Yorktown, the other one). He's clearly seen Questioning Tavington's Orders, however, he never reappears on the screen. Is he killed? Does he change sides halfway through the battle? Does he make a run for Canada? Who knows? He's just gone with no explanation. Perhaps his fate rests on the cutting room floor.
Another role that needs to be mentioned is that of The King in Radio Flyer. While his Hotness and Guyness cannot possibly be measured for this role as Mr. Baldwin's face is never seen on the screen, The King's Badness is unquestioned. I mean, the guy beats and intimidates his stepchildren, one of whom is played by the Future Wanna Be Hot Bad Guy Elijah Wood. Now that's just plain wrong.

there's something about a man in an 18th Century British
Uniform that just makes me gushy

he acts on orders and frankly his Badness pales before the
Evil that is Colonel Tavington

it takes a manly man to deal with all those buttons
